The Allergies – Tear The Place Up (New Album) – Jalapeno Records

The Allergies are back with a new album, and just like they’ve done with all of their previous ones, the Bristolian funkateers are once again here to Tear Up The Place! Ladened with thirteen of the finest funk, soul, blues, hip hop and reggae-influenced tracks money can buy, Rackabeat and Moneyshot have teamed up with a diverse range of collaborators such as Bootie Brown (The Pharcyde), Andy Cooper, Marietta Smith, Dele Sosimi and Joe Lickshot. As a cast, they’ve come together to put on show-stopping performances across the board with action and intrigue around every corner and awards soon to be bagged we’re sure.

The Allergies have, on average, released an album a year since their debut As We Do Our Thing dropped back in 2016. With their latest album, however, fans have had to wait eighteen months to add the newest masterpiece to their collections but left empty-handed we certainly weren’t. With the slightly longer run-up than normal, no less than seven singles were sent our way to keep us entertained and eager till the release of the full album. Nearly all of them made their way onto 7″ vinyl as they so often do, which means you can own tracks like the club-ready reggae house heater Mash Up The Sound, the feel-good and funky Stanky Funk feat. Bootie Brown and the sweet and soulful Sometimes I Wonder on one of The Allergies’ highly-prized 45s should you so wish.

From the tracks that were held back till the big reveal, notable mentions must first go to the album opener Green Light Go. Easily one of the catchiest tracks you’ll hear this summer, The Allergies team up with their brother from another mother Andy Cooper and deliver a booming and brass-heavy boom-bap cut that’s dripping in funk and ready for a good time. If you’re a fan of Andy Copper’s Gatling gun raps on classics such as Rock Rock and Buzzsaw, the intense title track of the album is one to look out for, along with the fiery Latin heat being expelled from Never Gonna Let Go and the supremely soulful and funky curtain closer Take Another Look At It featuring the amazing Marietta Smith.

If you’ve been a fan of The Allergies from day one, you’ll recognise that Tear Up The Place is the most diverse album of theirs to date and after a listen, it’ll soon become clear that whatever roads their musical meanderings take them down, those roads always end up being paved with gold.

It’s well worth taking this moment to let you know that the entire Allergies ensemble is currently 4 shows deep into their 18-show tour to promote their new album. There are plenty of festivals and clubs still to be visited around the UK this summer and if you’d quite like to them, check out the shows below to see if they’re coming to a dancefloor near you.
