UK-based breaks producer Kwerk has been doing his own thing for over a decade now and his distinct chunky and occasionally funky sound has pleased ears and brought the heat to dancefloors the world over in that time, with fellow DJs of the scene only too happy to drop a new Kwerk joint when it lands in their inboxes. Although only a producer in his spare time because of his day job, he has still managed to amass quite a collection of original tracks, official remixes and a few free cheeky bootlegs over the years and all of them are well worth a listen if you’ve yet to.
Like any good producer, Kwerk has, at times, hit writer’s block and in turn, questioned his ability and desire to make music. After labels such as Rump Shaker Records and Diesel Recordings offered to home his music back in 2019, though, the production bug bit him and it hasn’t let go. Full of desire, inspiration and with a reinvigoration of his hunger to smash out bloc-rockin’ breakbeat once again, Kwerk decided to go all in a while back and set to work on what would be his debut album and after lots of hard work, here we have it!
Do Your Own Thing is the brand new album from Kwerk and if you love breakbeat, you’re going to love it! Whilst the majority of the tracks have a huge peak-time flavour, there is a handful of moments of pure lushness on the album which include the stunning progressive breaks rollers Stay and Easy On Me and the easy-going and upbeat title track of the album. Kwerk also ventures into the world of drum and bass for the first time with Walk Away. Firing on all cylinders, the main room feel of this one will have the whole dancefloor vibing to the groove of this huge tune!
When it comes to the peak-timers on the album, there’s no better place to start than the start. Begin Transmission is the perfect opener and its cosmic aura, chunky beats and driving groove leaves you in doubt that it’s take-off time! Now cruising at a high altitude, you’ll soon be dazzled by all of the shining stars on the album, some of which include Hey Yea, which serves up some serious Finger Lickin’ vibes and the full-throttle and filth-fueled trio Illectric, The Funk Accelerator and Devil’s Twin to name just a few.
It’s all too evident that Kwerk is at the peak of his powers with this immaculately produced album after just one listen, so we can only recommend clearing the diary and listening to it in its entirety to gain the maximum out of the excellent adventure you’re about to go on. Out now on Diesel Recordings.
