Even though summer is now behind us, there is always plenty of dancing still to be done. Whether you’re doing it at home with friends, or you’re planning a set to get the club bouncing, Kouncilhouse’s latest album Flashback To The Weekend is packed with the type of music that’s guaranteed to make dancing shoes smoulder!
Many of Kouncilhouse’s previous albums have covered the full spectrum of sounds he is into. Beautiful downtempo tracks have been placed alongside mid-range house and breakbeat heaters and heavyweight drum and bass tunes to take the listener on lots of little journeys. His latest album, however, is one for the ravers and the music’s razor-like focus for the dancefloor came about after he got booked to play this year’s Shindig Festival. Realising he needed some high-energy weapons, he got busy in the studio and made some of his own and the 11 tracks that made it into his set are the ones that have made it onto his album.
The energetic and highly-addictive selection of 4/4-led tracks is headed up by the opener Look At Your Life. The warm and welcoming nature of the minute-long intro eases you gently, but when the drop arrives on this pulsating vocal-led heater, you’ll know about it! Flying high and fully charged from the energy of the opener, you’re now in a much better position to go toe-to-toe with the heavyweights on the album, with a few of those being the upfront and mind-altering I’m A Mess, the wavey and eye-fuzzing Double Drop, the acidic and intense DNA and the euphoric hair-raiser Proper Tune. The pure peak-time flavour subsides with the final track on the album Last Track. With less intensity, a heart-melting vocal, sublime strings and piano, this is the perfect track to get that breather you’ve been after and to help reflect on all that insanity that has gone before.
Word is that ever-productive Kouncilhouse has already started work on another new album, so we’ll keep our eyes peeled for when that one lands and bring you all the goodness as and when it does.
