It’s that time of year when Westwood Recordings rolls out its annual Fractal Forest compilation to stoke up the excitement and anticipation of the music that will be played and the memories that will be made at this year’s Shambhala Music Festival. With just under three weeks to go till the gates open, those going might just be trying to contain their excitement for a few more days to stop time dragging its heels, but there’s no letup because of what’s on board the mammoth 21-track compilation.
Some of the finest purveyors of funk and bass – both from Westwood’s roster and friends of the label – have been assembled to provide a snapshot of what you can expect to hear and feel from the legendary Fractal Forest stage over the weekend. All set to go to battle on the dancefloor, the likes of A.Skillz, Fort Knox Five, Qdup, Lazy Syrup Orchestra and The Gaff will be dropping huge funk bombs while massive midtempo missiles come raining in from all angles from So Tough So Cute, K+Lab, Stickybuds, Father Funk and Slynk. The generous amount of bass house on board the compilation is where you feel the true atomic energy of the compilation though and that can be felt in music by The Funk Hunters, Shiba San, Skiitour, Neon Steve and Pineo & Loeb, amongst many others. Ending things in spectacular fashion is JFB with a wild drum and bass number that, as you might expect, blows things up completely!
If you’re one of the lucky ones heading to Shamhala, rave and have a great one! If you’re one of the many not going, hopefully, the incredible music on board the Fractal Forest 2023 compilation will at least take the sting out of it a little bit.
