Der Kobold’s tasty On Cloud Nine EP somehow popped up on my radar recently, despite it being released back in 2021. Having missed it the first time around, I’m very pleased I got a chance to have a listen because the three deep-fried funk re-edits on it are so finger-lickin’ good, they deserve to be shared and feasted upon by all.
With all of the tracks on the EP being 4/4-led, things kick off with a crisply coated and meaty re-edit of The Temptations‘ – Cloud Nine (Doing Fine) -. Following on is a succulent and intensely flavoured spin on Eddie Kendricks‘ – Keep On Truckin’ – and to finish, the sweet and sticky funk sauce gets poured all over The Temptations’ – I Can’t Get Next To You –. A trio of heavily-marinated funk joints to make the mouth water.
