LSM’s Music Reviews Columnist, Hugo aka Kid Chameleon drops by to give the Londoners a grilling:

1. Thanks for taking sometime to answer these questions guys! Firstly how did you both end up collaborating on FYAH?

Ayah Marar: Pleasure! We were put together by our managers, and I can’t tell you what a breath of fresh air it was finding each other when you’re regularly put in with people that you might not click as well with. This was meant to be!

Warrior One: It was a while back, but I’m pretty much sure it was our mutual friend Laura Martin (Anorak PR) that put us together!

2. What was the inspiration behind the lyrics and can you tell us a bit about your influences?

Ayah Marar: We were trying to bring back that ‘old school’ dancefloor vocal nostagia in a way, a mix between soul and garage style lyrics with a 140bmp.

Warrior One: We both have Jungle and DnB roots, and hit it off when we met, so it just worked really… Keepin it simple, dancefloor, but soulful

3. Is the jungle still massive?

Ayah Marar: I think the Junglist Massive would agree that it is!

Warrior One:1: Getting massiver everyday… and slower. Massive and slow.

4. What were your highlights of 2011?

Ayah Marar: Performing at Brixton Academy, and releasing a record on Ministry Of Sound.

Warrior One:: Settling into my new studio and hooking up some big collabs dropping in 2012

5. You have both had an amazing 2011 respectively, have you got any new and secret projects you can reveal to us for 2012?

Ayah Marar: My album THE REAL is released this year which we’re terribly excited about, the first single MIND CONTROLLER drops in March, and the remixes have got us all hot and bothered. All I can say is that I’m going to be working with some legends of dance music this year, you’ll have to watch this space to find out who though …

Warrior One: Working with a new vocalist, Jess, who is completely amazing and is gonna seriously shock some people. Releasing great artist’s records on both King Pigeon and Cuttin’ Records and continuing to work with the boys at Black Butter and some other fairly top secret biznizz!

6. What are you top 5 dancefloor tunes of all time?

Ayah Marar : I can’t really choose my top 5 of all time that would take a while, but off the top of my head for now I’d say (in no particular order) …

Ayah Marar: Azari & III, Russo, El Crisis & Thunder, The Weeknd, Frank Ocean, Mr Probz, Beat Butcha … I foresee some big moves in the underground this year namely LV, Netsky, Trufix & Thunderskank, Funtcase and Cutline to name a few.
