Just over a month ago, we brought you news that Skeewiff were back on the scene with plans to release a series of funky revamps of their favourite library tracks and long-loved classics on their spiritual home, Jalapeno Records. The first two tracks in the series, which were revamps of music by Keith Mansfield and Herb Alpert & The Tijuana Brass, went down a storm, and there are no doubts the following two will go down the same way.
The first track to come in for a Concours-worthy makeover is the mystical and legendary Misirlou. Shrouded in a mystery of ‘who did it?’, its fusion of Eastern Mediterranean sounds and surf rock influences will be instantly recognisable to most, especially fans of Dick Dale and Pulp Fiction. As beautiful and serene as the opening section is, things kick off at the minute mark with that infamous guitar riff and solo horn riding a wave of lively drums, which in turn signals the time for you to dance like no one’s watching!
Now warmed up, it’s time to go all in and let loose fully to the short but damn sweet revamp of The Winstons’ all-star classic Amen Brother. Famed for having the most sampled drum break ever, Skeewiff work their magic to deliver a classy and cleaner-sounding version of the much-loved original that’s as energetic as ever! The crispness of the drums and horns is a joy to behold. The duo’s mission to achieve perfection while always having fun is paying off, big time!
Both tracks are available on digital format and limited 7″ vinyl on the link below.
