Child Of’s remix of “Life Is An Experiment” is a nine-minute-long electronic work of art. The track begins with crisp, delicate breakbeats, soon joined by Perry’s distinct vocals, as well as increasing intense synth lines and melodies. By the final third of the track, it has evolved into a techno thumper that retains the emotion and atmosphere it so patiently built.
The full “Remix The Universe” album features 12 tracks with new versions by artists from various music genres including post-hardcore, experimental hip hop, indie rock, EDM, and ambient music. The album offers a wide range of musical experiences, from the overdriven electronic blast by Andy Morin (Death Grips), to the dancefloor-ready groove of South Africa’s BLK JKS, to the head-banging fuzz-dub of Quicksand, and Nick Reinhart’s experimental exploration.
The album is a tribute to the incredible legacy of Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry, who inspired musicians from countless genres and scenes. “We wanted to pay homage to his legacy by working with artists beyond dub and reggae,” said Eric J. Breitenbach, the founder of New Age Doom, the label behind the album.
“Life is an experiment. The more you experiment, you make a better, better man,” Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry once famously said. This album proves that the experiment of remixing Perry’s music with diverse genres has produced a new and exciting musical universe that will surely capture the attention of music lovers everywhere.
