Mr Doris & D-Funk – Feel Good / Back In The Day + Remixes (Jalapeno Records)

We kick off this action-packed post with news that the dynamic duo, Mr DorisD-Funk, have teamed up once more to deliver a couple of funky hip-hop treats on one of our favourite labels in the world, Jalapeno Records. In addition to that attention-grabbing headline, we bring you breaking news that those two tracks have now been remixed by Krafty Kuts, Thatmanmonkz, Smoove and George Solar, and we’ve got it all covered here!

Leading the way on their new two-track release, Mr Doris & D-Funk send our way their sample-driven groove Feel Good featuring two of the UK’s finest vocalists Nell Shakespeare and Cantaloop. With plenty under the pedal to entice the movers and shakers onto the dancefloor, the catchy and bumpin’ beats and uplifting vocals will leave you feeling good, damn good in fact! Following on is their second track Back In The Day feat. MysDiggi and there’s only one word to describe this one: genius! Sampling the Grange Hill theme tune (you heard me right), Mr Doris & D-Funk expertly weave it through low-slung beats to great effect while MysDiggi goes all out referencing TV shows, sweets and plenty of other bits and pieces from the 80s and 90s. Props to West London’s Natural Born Spitta for piecing all those bits together and for the epic nostalgia trip!

On to the remixes we go and first up is Krafty Kuts. Taking on Feel Good, Krafty strips things back slightly and delivers his funky interpretation that has a certain b-boy stance about it. Thatmanmonkz also get to work remixing Feel Good and his funky house remix is an absolute belter! Everyone’s on the floor when this one turns up at the party and mark my words, the roof is coming off! Next up is a superb remix of Back In The Day by Smoove. With a lot less Grange Hill and a lot more classic hip-hop samples, Smoove’s remix is just as genius as the original! George Solar brings proceedings to a close with a lush downtempo remix of Feel Good. Rich with Balearic vibes, it’s a winner for those chilling while watching the sun go down.
