Gonna preface this review with the fact this EP features one of my favourite tunes of the year so far! There’s no bells to my knowledge but InnerCore has pulled out the ‘Horns & Whistles’ for this excellent EP
‘Brockwild (feat. MC MC)’ is a skanking oldskool Jungle roller to the very core!!! Uplifting keys contrasted by darker moments, a great call and response vocal; and snares aplenty!!
‘Dropzone’ goes further with the beats from Renegade Snares opening up proceedings before flipping into some Top Buzz (RIP) inspired Jungle Tekno complete with horns!!!
‘Ez Ur Mind’ has some V-nice breaks a la Fat Controller and Slipmatt and Eurodance/Rave inspired strings. It’s a fantastic slice of (dare I say it) Happy Hardcore done properly in more of a 92-94 fashion.
‘Horns & Whistles’ is that tune I mentioned earlier, a tune of the year candidate for me. Everything from the Son’z of a Loop Da’ Loop Era/Prodigy break to the oh so 92 hoovers and- I’ve tried to not overuse the word but-then theres the absolutely sublime piano!!! There is so much mileage in the 1992 formula and who better to take it on then Innercore, hats off to you sir!!!
