Free Download: That’s Not An Edit Vol.18

Hot on the heels of their New Zealand brothers, the Australian That’s Not An Edit collective is back with volume 18 of their self-titled compilation series. Because of the familiar flavourings of funk, soul, disco, hip hop, and drum and bass that have been generously spread throughout, the crew have ensured that their free 26-track compilation will go down as one of the best gifts you’ll receive this Christmas.

Like all of the previous compilations, volume 18 brings a great variation of styles and vibes, which means there’s a little something for everyone to enjoy. For those looking for smooth grooves and laidback beats for rainy or snowy days spent behind the curtains, there are stunners like DJ CMAN’s blissed-out Bossa remix of Kool and The Gang’sSummer Madness –, Danzim’s easy-rollin’ Latin re-edit of J Dilla’s – So Far To Go – feat. Common & D’Angelo, Mr Leigh‘s low-slung and beats-driven re-edit of Gang Starr’s – Bless The Mic – and Jason Lee‘s smooth and seductive slo-mo disco spin of – Girl I Betcha – by Hi Tension, amongst several others.

Taking things up a handful of notches and onto beats and pieces with a bit more bump, bite and intensity, we have D-Funk’s psych-funk workout on Dr Hook‘s – Levitate –, Kid Kenobi’s slick ghetto funk style re-edit of A Tribe Called Quest’s – Check The Rhime –, Galleon’s funk-heavy and extra chunky ‘Reconstruction Mix’ of Maceo & All His Kingsmen’s – Funky Women – and Pecoe’s sample strewn funk and hip-hop-infused joint – Smarty Party -, Darren Somerville’s lively disco re-edit of The Brothers Johnson’s – Stomp – and Tony Garcia’s infectious drum and bass remix of Adam F’s – Circles –, amongst many others.

The tracks selected are just tracks selected. They’re by no means favourites because picking a winner from a compilation album as good as this one is an impossible task, as you’ll soon find out once you’re digging through the gold.
