Dj Chamber’s Worldwide Remix Tour and Interview

in Featured Downloads, Other Stuff, Tracks by Alex Sychosis on January 11th, 2013

Former LSM writer and Breakspoll heavyweight Dj Chamber just wrapped up a giveaway featuring a new track for 12 weeks remixed by the man himself. We got a chance to chat with the now Taiwan based Dj about his plans for 2013 and his move from the UK to Asia.

Happy New Year! I noticed you had a pretty hectic schedule for the Holiday, how did it go?
Happy new year! Yeah it was pretty crazy. In the two weeks leading up to NYE I had 10 gigs. The majority of my holidays were spent in planes, trains, taxis and coaches getting to and from each gig. There were some amazing huge ones in there though, I wouldn’t change a thing! Highlights include the Vietnam gig, a crazy university party, an air force party and the new years boat party.

How is the scene in Taiwan?
The underground electronic music scene here is pretty far behind the UK, America and a lot of the rest of the world I’d say, but its showing obvious signs of improving. Far too many clubs here focus on top 40 commercial music sadly, but it seems like the more alternative clubs are doing better and better at the moment. Hopefully the mainstream clubs will begin to take notice of this and eclecticize their style a little. Is ‘eclecticize’ a word? I’m not sure… it definitely should be if not.

What prompted your move there?
I had already toured here three times when I got an offer from club Brickyard to move over permanently and become their resident. It was a great offer and one which I undoubtedly would have kicked myself later for turning down. Also, having experienced the music scene here before, I thought it needed some help and I figured I could assist with its ‘eclecticization’…

What’s in store Bass Kitchen in 2013? There are some international gigs happening, right?
Yeah, we now have branches running in the UK, Canada, Poland and Taiwan. It is ever expanding and I’m hoping next time I get interviewed by LSM, I’ll be able to add a few more branches onto that list. Bass Kitchen is going from strength to strength, recent bookings have included Deekline, Featurecast, Foamo, A Skillz and Ed Solo and coming up early this year we have the likes of Utah Jazz, JFB and Far Too Loud (and many more to be confirmed).

Tell us more about the Worldwide Remix Tour that you just wrapped up…
The worldwide remix tour began back in September – Since then I’ve been giving away a free remix of an artist from a different country each week. The tour covers everything from chillout, hip-hop and glitch to tearout breaks and garage. My work on the remix tour is over now, but there may still be a few bonus remixes on the way.

Any upcoming tour dates you want people to know about?
January 20th, I’m flying over to Thailand to play a huge beach festival on Koh Tao alongside the Dub Pistols, Orbital and Thomas Gandey. I also have gigs coming up in Malaysia and Shanghai as well as a few other spots around Asia. I’ll also be coming back to the other side of the world for an extended UK and Europe tour in June.

Sychosis Top 5 in Broken Beat Week 1

in Featured Downloads, Tracks by Alex Sychosis on December 3rd, 2012

Broken Beat music in the EDM world has exploded into a kitchen sink soup of sub genre’s and wicked twisted bass lines. There is no doubt that Breaks are no longer dead! We have decided to let our resident Breakbeat aficionado Sychosis take the reigns and give you the best of the best each week in in all things broken and bassey! If you have something that you think fits the bill, send him a message on his Facebook listed below.

First up is Kimba out of San Francisco, with a healthy dose of the weird and wonderful with this electro (real electro not that stuff with all the fart noises) infused rerub or Gydyr’s Headless Hollow.

The sound of Diddy or Puff Daddy or P Puff Mini whatever he wants to be called this year makes most want to break out the shiny shirt. Luckily this edit of Chuckie and Diddy’s Hello, Good Morning is all dirt and no glitter! And that’s the only way South East Badboy and US Breakbeat kingpin Dj Frenzy knows how to do.

Calgary’s Dylan Kennedy is label boss to the major up and comer Atomic Zoo. The label has support from some huge names including Richie Hawtin, Far Too Loud, Lazy Rich, and Calvertron to name a few. Along with production partner Amethyst he brings this Breaks/Dubstep hybrid.

Yet another transition track from down under in the form of this Philly Blunt edit of Harlem Shake. From Breaks to Trap and back again with all the ghetto booty you can handle, this is just grimey!

And finally for a nice healthy dose of the 808 is just what the doctor ordered! Sychosis drops this remix of Swith featuring Andrea Martin’s I Still Love You has a solid groove to support the gorgeous vocal. And enough beat to keep your booty movin.
