Mindstate – Dystopia & Interview with Label Boss Ricky Ashman
We have a tasty, exclusive, free download for you all this week from Infidelity Recordings. To celebrate the release of Blak Twang ft. Congo Natty Rebel MC -’Rebel Emcee’ we have this dark moody track which has great flourishes of dark tek D&B reminiscent of early virus records fused with the modern touches you would expect to find on shogun audio. This label has great promise and with a first release with so huge, the only way is up. For the free track ‘Mindstate – Dystopia’ simply enter your email address at the bottom of the post…

Kid Chameleon recently caught up with label boss Ricky Ashman to chew the fat about the new release and the future of the label.
Hi Ricky thanks for taking the time to do this interview.
1. Can you tell us a bit about how your events company started & what made you make the decision to start a record label as well?
I started putting on the Infidelity events in 2002. The debut event was at the O2 Academy, Bristol. It was just called the Bristol Academy back then. The first event sold out the 1900 capacity venue which was a great start for a new brand of events. The events then carried on that path and successfully filled up the Academy and other similar sized venues throughout a 10 year period. I have taken a break from events for the 1st time in 10 years to start Infidelity as a label and there couldn’t be a more natural progression for me.
2. Having rebel MC and Blak twang on the same track is rather special. How did it all come about?
We actually spoke to Rebel MC about being in the video for the track with Blak Twang and he liked the track so much, he requested to feature on the track. Myself and Tony (Blak Twang) knew that he would fit well on the track so put the release date back to give Rebel time to put his verse down.
3. Will the label be focusing mainly on drum & bass to keep in line with infidelity brand or will you be looking expand is musical direction?
Infidelity will be mainly focusing on D&B. I have another label called Ramajam Recordings that I am co owner with alongside LXP from Run Tingz Recordings. Ramajam is an all round Bass label so if there are other projects outside of D&B that I work on, they will generally come out via Ramajam Recordings as it is not tied down to one genre. I am currently in talks with a few artists regarding the Hi Fidelity brand which was the Hip Hop sister brand to Infidelity. This may be launching as a Hip Hop label now so watch this space!
4. Who are your hot picks for producers for 2013?
Definitely watch out for TerraHawk, many different projects in the pipeline including collaborations and remixes with artists like Tenor Fly, Million Dan, Blak Twang, Top Cat and others before the year is up.
5. If you could be one of the X-men which one would it be and why?
I would probably be the most obvious one, wolverine. Purely because he can take a knock and get back up quick with his healing powers. In the music industry you’ve got to be able to take some heavy knocks and bounce back even stronger!
